To create the cute little Bärchen face on the Reinert Bärchen sausage, different sausage mixtures are filled into a special mold. Each component has a slightly different recipe — this creates the different colors in the face.
In the pork sausage, different types of pork are used, which naturally have slightly different shades.
In the poultry version, tomato paste naturally provides the darker color.
Our Reinert Bärchen products
In 1998, Bärchen gave us its very first cheeky wink when Hans-Ewald Reinert created the Reinert Bärchen sausage for his own children. Since then, it has taken our hearts by storm. That’s how Bärchen became a friend to millions of families — even beyond Germany’s borders.
Reinert Bärchen Quality
A sign you can rely on. In everything we do, children and their needs come first. That’s why our Reinert Bärchen products are made not only with great care, but also with a clear quality promise: our quality paw print. It shows at a glance what you and your family can count on — paw on it!
For our products, we use only meat of consistently monitored, high quality. The mild recipes are specially tailored to the taste preferences of children.
FAQ
Information on the most important questions can be found here:
For our Reinert Bärchen products, we use only meat that is certified according to the strict standards of the QS inspection system. Most of the meat comes from the regions around our production sites — primarily the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, Germany. In addition, we source raw materials from other parts of Germany as well as from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark.
As a family-owned company with a long tradition, we place great value on long-term, trustworthy partnerships with our suppliers. Together with them, we ensure that our high quality requirements are met — through clear specifications and regular on-site inspections.
Yes, Bärchen-Spread is a cooked sausage that is heated to over 70 °C and filled while hot. The casing is then sealed airtight and quickly cooled, making the product microbiologically safe.
For pregnant women, we recommend the poultry variety (orange lid), as it is produced without liver and therefore contains less vitamin A. Excessive intake of vitamin A should be avoided during pregnancy. Small amounts of liver, as contained in our other variety, are nevertheless considered safe.
In our Bärchen products we do not use any ingredients that contain lactose. They are therefore lactose-free.
We offer two varieties of Bärchen-Spread: The version with the blue lid contains pork and poultry meat as well as a small amount of liver (less than 10%) — which means it is not considered liver sausage according to the guidelines for sausage products.
The version with the orange lid is made without liver and consists of poultry meat and coconut fat.
We add only very small amounts of sugar to our products. We use it for two main reasons:
Taste: Sugar rounds off the flavor and softens salty or spicy notes.
Fermentation/Maturation: In fermented sausages such as salami, sugar serves as food for lactic acid bacteria, which convert it into lactic acid. This improves both the flavor and the shelf life.
No, Reinert Bärchen Poultry-Spread does not contain liver.
Salt plays an important role in the production and shelf life of sausage:
For preservation: It slows the growth of microorganisms and extends shelf life. A certain salt content is necessary to ensure the desired minimum shelf life.
For taste: Salt brings out flavors and gives sausage its typical taste.
For texture: It influences the binding and consistency of the sausage mixture — especially important for spreadable and firm varieties.
We strive to use as little salt as possible in all Bärchen products while still ensuring a tasty, child-friendly recipe.
Our Bärchen products do not contain any gluten-containing ingredients and are naturally gluten-free.
We recommend our Bärchen products from toddler age, earliest from around 12 months. Since sausage products usually contain higher amounts of salt and fat, infants should not consume sausage in order to avoid health issues.
Our products are not yet available everywhere, but we are working on expanding availability.

Thank you for your patience and your interest!
We are always happy to explore new product ideas! At the moment, we are not planning meat-free alternatives.
However, we are continuously working on exciting new Bärchen products.
The pattern is created using a special casing that has motifs printed on it. During smoking, the smoke only penetrates the areas where the casing allows it through. The printed areas block the smoke and therefore remain lighter. Once the casing is removed, the desired pattern is visible on the sausage.
